From 1965 War to Operation Rah-e-Rast

Our country is passing through one of the most critical phase of its history which is not only threatening from strategic point of view but on tactical front as well
September 6 is not a day to be celebrated to commemorate the historic victory of Pakistani nation against its traditional enemy India but is a resolve to defend sacred boundaries of the motherland at whatsoever cost it may be. In 1965 War, Pakistan armed forces with the unconditional support of Pakistani masses not only repelled Indian army's aggression but chased them in their own borders and captured its territories including Khem Karan.
Indians were fed up to the extent that they ran to Soviet Union for immediate relief which was very kindly granted to them. The relief was so unexpected and out of the blue for them that the then Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri couldn't survive and died because of heart attack in Tashkent, the night when Tashkent accord was signed.
It was the 1965 War when every citizen of Pakistan stood firm side by side with the armed forces. When Field Marshal Ayub Khan in his address asked the nation to tell the enemy how it gathered courage to attack the nation which has full belief in Allah, the whole nation stepped out to support their forces and to repel the aggression. It was the time of test and trial when the whole nation was thinking beyond its own interest and was ready to sacrifice everything for the cause of sovereignty and honour of the country. So the 6th of September is a day of thanksgiving and blessings as Allah Almighty granted this nation a strength, courage and determination, to protect and safeguard boundaries of motherland.
The Defence Day of Pakistan reminds us of the unbeatable valour of the people and the armed forces of Pakistan in discomforting the nefarious designs of an enemy five times bigger and equipped with much superior weapons. September 6 is a day when we pay reverence to the daring men of the armed forces and salute the Shuhada who laid down their lives for the defence of their motherland. We also pay tribute to the heroism of the Ghazis who through their gallant and valiant acts in the war of 1965 stamped a plausible place in the history of Pakistan, in the battles over land, air and sea.
Our armed forces, whenever called upon to protect their national integrity and harmony, have always displayed courage, valour and professionalism. And they have always proved their worth in the hour of trial as they proved on September 6, forty-four years ago. That was the time when entire Pakistani nation was ready to respond by standing shoulder to shoulder with their armed forces. Many of our troops including officers and men embraced Shahadat in defending the honour and glory of the nation.
This day marks the September 1965 War and the fearless defence put up by the armed forces against Indian hostility. It was definitely a day to be remembered by future generations of soldiers and civilians. Our soldiers laid down their lives for a healthier future of our country.
Today, September 6, 2009, our country is passing through one of the most critical phase of its history which is not only threatening from strategic point of view but on tactical front as well. Pakistan, which became a forefront and an important ally of USA's resolve in war against terrorism after nine 9/11 in 2001, has played its role beyond its limitations. Pakistan Army which is one of the best armies of the world is engaged to eliminate terrorists from this soil. Our Army was hectically busy in tribal areas to expel foreign terrorists hiding there. At the same time, anti-Pakistan elements managed to create unrest in Swat and Malakand through extremists by encompassing the general masses and imposing their own form of Islam on them. Their main demand was enforcement of Shariah and Islamic laws. Their demands were accepted and a peace deal was signed. But amid the successful negotiations and peace deal the miscreants kept on humiliating the locals by challenging writ of the government. On witnessing sheer violations of peace accord and the stringency of the extremists, government of Pakistan decided to teach the miscreants a lesson and ordered Pakistan Army to launch a proper operation to eradicate them from the area. Pakistan Army designed an operation named 'Operation Rah-e-Rast' to eliminate the miscreants and to provide a peaceful environment to the locals.
After intense and sustained operations, Pakistan Army succeeded to decimate extremists from Swat and Malakand. Top leadership of Malakand-based terrorists was being pursued relentlessly, terrorists command and control, logistics and training infrastructure was destroyed and disrupted. Middle and stumpy level leadership of extremists was killed and apprehended. Some limited pockets of resistance remained which are in the process of being eliminated.
Return of dislocated population in Malakand and Swat has largely been obtained. The government, with active support of Army's special support group has ensured restoration of maximum essential services like electricity, gas, water, roads, fuel stations and banking system. Civil administrative set up and local police services are now adequately functional.
Once again the passion of 1965 War was observed during the said operation when Pakistani nation gave its unflinching support to the Army stemming from nationalistic and patriotic fervour. Our armed forces are one of the best forces of the world which can produce fascinating results with support of the nation. Eradicating extremists from Swat and Malakand was a gigantic task being proudly fulfilled by our troops. The whole Pakistani nation is proud of them. Nation salutes the national heroes who revived the heroic deeds of 1965 War and repelled the hazard of miscreants. Today, once again Pakistani flag is hoisting in Swat and Malakand which speaks volumes of valiant Pakistan Army troops. Pakistan Army has proved time and again that no internal or external threat can question sovereignty of the motherland. Love Pakistan.
